From the book: "Highland Trails by Kenneth Murray Pg 78
"Red Fork Falls are a short walk from USFS-230 or Unaka Mountain Road. To locate the trail, watch for spray painted orange spot on tree (or use parking coords 36.08.952 82.15.554) There are no trail blazes. To reach the falls, walk 175 yards along the track to the first fork of the creek. Ford it and the second fork (about 100 feet ahead). A sign here notes that this side of the creek is within the Unaka Mountain Wilderness Area, public property. Follow the path downstream, along the left bank. Be certain to keep to the path along the hillside where there are natural steps and hand-holds. It is well used and clearly defined. From the top of the steep slope, the trail is nearly vertical. However, the descent is only slightly more difficult than a ladder or steep stairs, although it is slippery and treacherous. Be Careful! From the base of the main falls, smaller, less dramatic cascades continue down the ravine for another 100 yards, make a sharp bend, and end in quiet pools. The main falls are in the 80 foot range"
Cache is near the bottom of the falls. Find the Red sign and your close
