Aina: Snufs snufs - min første arkiverte cache i Oslo og på Østlandet [V]
Men alt er revet og hele området er bare en byggeplass nå, med omveier og få gjemmemuligheter for selv en liten søt cache. Jeg hadde tenkt på en alternativ plassering, men den ligger nå for nær en av Hovinbycachene, så da går det ikke. Og siden sykkelvelodromen er revet og alt blir fotballfokusert her, så ser jeg ingen grunn til å holde på plassen da temaet ikke vil være relevant lenger. Snufs, snufs.

PS: Dette var et gammelt klenodium av en cache med utleggsmåned mars'2004. For de som samler på gamle utleggsmåneder, så kan jeg anbefale mitt første utlegg denne måneden. Riktignok er den litt utenfor Oslo, men den ligger rett ved vakre Ølja og Tverrsjøstallen: AG#18 - Moonstruck over Ølja: GCHX2Z

Geocache Description:

Once upon a time there was a Velodrome in Valle Hovin, the multi-sport area in Oslo East. Now it's used for parking in winter...


I don't remember when the velodrome was built, for which sport event or when they stopped using it... Haven't found much info on Internet either (yet), but maybe some of you know? Valle Hovin sport complex consists of the ice skating arena, this old velodrome and the new Valhall, used for indoor foot ball and music concerts.

We visited during winter to log a locationless, and found it used for parking! Not so today; during summer it is used for petanque. But will the velodrome ever have bikes racing its tracks again?

Log-only micro, no place for trading items or pencil, so you have to bring your own pencil

Updated info 02.03.08: I visited the site to place out a new micro cache, and found that the entire area around the veledrome was digged up to build Helsfyr Atrium. Due to this, I had to move the cache to the opposite side of velodrome, since the previous place is off-limit now.
Vålerenga also wants to build a huge new VIF stadion here - on the veldrome site. If these plans are approved, the Oslo Velodrome might be history soon...

January'2016: This cache will most likely be archived, when the old velodrome will be torn down to build the huge dominent VIF stadion. Since the theme of the cache was to show you all the old forgotten velodrome, I see no reason to keep my cache alive after velodrome is gone.
