Richmond River Rally Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Gus the Golden: Archiving the event now that everyone's had plenty of time to log it.

BTW, there are still a ton of Jeep TBs listed in it. Please, if you took one, log it like a normal Travel Bug. If you're not sure how to, please contact me and I'll be happy to help you out!

Geocache Description:

Join us in Dogwood Dell near the James River for Richmond's first geocaching event.

Thanks to Team Lawrence, we're going to have a ton of Yellow Jeep Travel Bugs on hand at the event. All the new caches will also be seeded with them prior to the 19th as well!

We've reserved the Carillon Shelter in Dogwood Dell for Saturday, June 19, 2004 to hold the first Richmond geocaching event. It's a chance to put a face to all those names in the log and meet some new folks as well! We've got the shelter until sunset and plan to kick things off at 11 am.

We'll be running the grill from 11 am until probably about 1 pm and welcome any food contributions our fellow cachers want to bring with them! The organizers will be providing the main course--hotdogs, hamburgers, and soft drinks along with condiments and utensils.

The shelter has ample parking, restrooms on site, and is centrally located to much of the James River Park system, where a large number of existing Richmond caches are already placed. Also, close by the shelter is Barker Field, a fenced area where you can let your dogs run free and socialize with their peers as well.

We're planning to hand out a few doorprizes at the event, some of which include a pair of FMRS hand radios, a premade, ready-to-place cache, another cache container complete with a custom made hide prepared by cache craftsman Walden Pond, and a limited edition silver geocoin.

If you can make it, please post a note (not a find yet--wait until after the event!) to let us know so we can get a ballpark number for attendance. If you can to bring any items (sodas, hotdog buns, paper plates, etc.) give us a heads-up in the note as well so we can plan appropriately.

We're also going to be hiding a number of caches in the area--both near and within reasonable driving distances--in support of the event. We'll release the coordinates to the caches at the event at 12:30 pm, and update them to the website after the event so attendees have the first shot!
