Geocache Description:

This cache may introduce you to a part of Cannon Beach that might otherwise be overlooked.

Located in a scenic forest sandwiched between Cannon Beach and Highway 101, this forest is crisscrossed with well-worn trails. If you are stealthy, you may get to see a herd of elk which move through the area regularly. The cache is a plastic container a little smaller than a shoebox and contains a homemade logbook and some "treasures." It is not far off the trail, and not far from the paved road, so be sure to camouflage it again carefully. My GPS worked in the trees, so I hope you have good reception as well. Happy hunting!

April 2012 update - I've been getting reports that the cache got very wet, so I will be temporarily disabling the listing until I get a chance to go perform maintenance on it. Sorry!

May 31 update - Performed maintenance on the cache. It was a bit damp inside, but everything is wrapped in zip locks so I think it'll be okay. Added a new log book, but left the original log book for everyone's reading pleasure. Keep on caching!

November 28, 2004 UPDATE - I've taken this cache off-line for now. Recent visitors have informed me that it has gotten quite wet, and I won't be able to fix it up for awhile. Sorry! I'll try to get it back up and going again around the first of the year. Happy caching, Team RKSC

February 3, 2005 UPDATE - Thanks to help from SAR&CREW and Funnybone this cache should be back as of Feb. 5, 2005. Thanks! Team RKSC

July 4, 2005 UPDATE - checked on the cache and it looks to be doing well. Perhaps I should warn everyone that the ground stays pretty squishy in the forest year-round - that's why we decided to go with the 2-star rating on terrain. Don't wear those brand new white shoes!

March 25, 2007 UPDATE - We checked on the cache, as we hadn't looked in on it since last fall. It is staying dry, but the trail, as usual is extremely muddy. We saw lots of evidence of elk here recently, but didn't see any today. Happy Caching everybody!

August 25, 2007 UPDATE - Got a new box for the cache, a new log book, and a couple of new pens and pencils. It is now an ammo can, and everything inside is wrapped in ziplock freezer bags. This should help to keep everything dry. Please be sure to re-hide it well after you visit, as there are lots of muggles who explore these trails too.

March 24, 2008 UPDATE - I visited the cache today and added a few new "goodies." I am pleased that it is staying dry.

May 24, 2009 UPDATE - The area has changed a little due to expansion of the nearby water treatment facilities. Some of the trees have been removed, but the cache is still well hidden and I encourage you to venture into the forest to enjoy the area while you are here. The cache is staying dry, but the hinge of the ammo box is coming apart, so be careful when opening and closing it. I'll get a new one or repair this one in the near future. I added a few new goodies during my visit today, so enjoy!

February 27, 2010 Update: We visited the cache today and added some new goodies. I'll need to remember to bring a new logbook soon, as the one in there is nearly full and feeling a little damp. There was evidence that elk had moved through the cache area recently, and then we spotted a herd (25-30 at least!) just off the road on the way to Seaside a couple of miles from the cache.
