KU#2 Arctic Expedition Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Makuta Teridax: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Due to lack of response from the owner, this cache is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Makuta Teridax

Geocache Description:

This is a multicache which will guide you through the city of Sandvika. The coordinates point to the first clue.

The cache is dedicated to Norwegian postage stamps no. 1537 and 1538, issued March 26th 2004, with the theme Otto Sverdrup. Otto Sverdrup was a famous Norwegian Arctic explorer. He lived many years of his life in Sandvika.

All the clues are within walking distance from eachother.

  • Small sign at the side of the road. For how many years did Otto Sverdrup live in this house = A
  • Same location. In which year was the house built = B
  • At N 59 53.414 E 010 31.571. You should now be standing near a water feature. How many arched windows = C
  • At N 59 53.513 E 010 31.491. Which year was this statue erected = D
  • At N 59 53.565 E 010 31.466. How many blue window panes on central island = E
  • At N 59 53.567 E 010 31.380. Which year was this statue erected = F
  • At N 59 53.477 E 010 31.302. How many arches under the entire span of this bridge = G
  • Same location. How many round (do not count the square ones) pillars under the entire span of this bridge = H
  • At N 59 53.349 E 010 31.441. How many maroon pillars (in front of building as well as inside the courtyard. Make sure you check all the way into the corner of the courtyard. You cannot see the last pillar unless you go there) = I.
  • At N 59 53.195 E 010 31.705. How many words on sign = J
  • Same location. How many characters altoghether in all words on this sign = K
  • At N 59 53.129 E 010 31.531. Total number of crosses on the railings on this bridge = L

You can now calculate the cache position:

  • X = ((L+(I-2)) * B) + D - (C*E) - K
  • Y = (H*F) - (A*G) - J
These should both be 5 digit numbers, and the cache coordinates are:
  • N 59 X
  • E 010 Y

The cache is a two litre plastic ice cream tub covered in a plastic bag. It contains items which may come in handy on an arctic expedition. It contains an extra bonus for FTF: a first day cover of this stamp issue, signed by the artist.
