This beautiful spot can be accessed from the year round parking area located at N 44 35.173, W 079 27.196. The trail ascends a steep slope before descending again into the valley. Be careful as the trail into the valley is strewn with loose rocks and gravel. Wear sturdy shoes.
Scout Valley seems to have received it’s name from the use of the area for training by local Boy Scouts half a century or so ago. In the 60’s the Simcoe College Foundation, in the hope that a local University would be built here, purchased the property. The Foundation had great expectations but in the end failed to bring the development to fruition. Today, I believe, the property is managed by the City of Orillia with the assistance of local groups.
Several trails run though Scout Valley and 3 parking lots, one year round and 2 seasonal, give access to the trails. At each parking area you will find a posted trail map. The trails cover a variety of terrain but keep an eye peeled, as it is easy to get off the marked trail system.
The Cache is placed in my favourite part of Scout Valley. A small, year round stream flows here fed by a pond just upstream. The pond is reputed to have been a favourite, secret, fishing hole frequented by Author “Stephen Leacock”.
The original second hint for the cache was "Look near a cedar with a couple of fallen trees against it."
