This is one of the secret harbors in the area, and a great spot to watch some real New England fisherman and lobsterman. This harbor was used for smuggling, rum-running, gun running, and for the movement of illicit goods.
In colonial times this cove was used by both pirates and privateers, and in later years the cove hosted some of the early military vessels of the U.S. Navy.
During the prohibition era this harbour was used to smuggle in tens of thousands of gallons of Candian liquour in the bait tanks of fishing ships.
During the war this harbor allowed submarines from Portsmouth to covertly dock at the tool factory, refuel, resupply, and then go out to sea to prowl for German submarines.
The large building nearby is the old Cape Ann Tool factory, which has been in ruins for a number of years.
This area has moderate to poor GPS reception, especially if the area is wet, damp, or foggy. Also, the local terrain will make GPS reception touchy unless you get into an open area. Try to get your GPS system high and well above the rocks to get a clear view of the sky.
Cache is a white plastic container measuring roughly 4*10 inches.
This cache is a lot like life, in that the high road is the best one to take, but watch where you step as this is a case when you want to WALK to the cache.
Beware of muggles nearby.
