1894 Sept. 1, Minn.: forest fires ravaged over 160,000 acres and destroyed 6 towns; 600 killed, including 413 in town of Hinckley. This monument is dedicated to those who lost their lives trying to run from this fire, there are many trees in the area that still show the scars from this fire and stories abound from people hiding in creeks and lakes and even burying themselves in the ground to try and save their lives....visit the nearby museum to find out some more info. and have some doughnuts at tobies :)
