Rountree's Vista can be approached by turning of offSH 1 south of Whangarei but can be approached from other roads in the area. From the cache site a 
panoramic view of the Whangarei area can be seen along with views of the Poor Knights and Poor Squires Islands. Traveling further south you can visit the Waipu Caves which are close by.
You can drive to this cache and it is hidden at the base of a Myrsine australis see hint) In the past the leaves of this tree were boiled and the liquid was taken for toothache.
