Geocache Description:

This is a tuppertype container (clear with a white lid). If you park by the pavilion, you will walk just over 1/10 of a mile on grass that is kept pretty well mowed. There are alot of minor old tire ruts in the grass, but it's a pretty easy walk. I scoped the area out the day after a heavy rain, and even though the ground was wet, it wasn't at all muddy.

If you can find this cache after the farmer who leases this field cuts hay, it'll be a much easier walk in. Otherwise, beware of tall grass and the ticks that hide therein! I'm also told (by someone who found out the hard way) that cachers should be alert to poison ivy.

Marmaduke Park is named (I believe) for a former Governor of Missouri (which one I don't know, we had two Gov. Marmadukes). It was originally part of the Missouri State Lunatic Asylum Number 3 (really, that's what it was called). Check out www.lyndonirwin.com/asylum.htm to see pictures of the old building. The park and surrounding farmland were all part of and used by the hospital. The park now belongs to the city and is used for many special events as well as general use. The Park & Rec director has given me permission to place caches in the city's parks.Original contents of the cache include: Lord of the Rings CD ROM demo, 2 toy cars, can of crazy string, a rain poncho, and 2 bags of magic confetti.
