Geocache Description:

A four-stage hunt featuring benchmarks as waypoints

This cache requires you to visit three benchmarks, gather information from them and use clues to determine the coordinates for each successive leg of the hunt. The benchmarks you will find are not listed on the Geocaching NGS benchmark page, and thus they are "Rogues". Bring a pen or pencil and a copy of this cache page to write on.

You will combine driving/walking and hiking for this hunt. You will travel paved streets, dirt roads, trails and also go off-trail (walking/hiking). The difficulty rating refers to solving the puzzle and the final cache hiding spot. The terrain rating pertains mostly to the hilly hike to the cache itself. Follow the directions carefully.

The posted coords above are your starting point only. For each leg after the first, solve for the missing numeral in the coords by assigning:

1-A numerical value for a letter in a word (eg: h=8);
and/or: 2-Using a numeral which corresponds to a value in marked elevation or date.

Stop # 1-Well, well; "CCC" the marker? Read disk. Find the coords to the next benchmark by plugging in values from info on this marker. Using either the name of the government agency which placed the disk, or the elevation listed on the disk, or other info, solve for:

40.AB.CDF, 111.BF.CEF

A=5th letter of 2nd word
B=6th letter of 3rd word
C=3rd letter of 3rd word
D=1's value of year below BM in concrete
E=100's value of elevation on disk
F=10's value of elevation on disk

Stop #2- Chase this one down. Same idea as the last one. The govt. agency is 3 words; the first word is two initials.

40.AB.ACC, 111.BD.CAE

A=5th letter of 3rd word
B=2nd letter of 2nd word
C=7th letter of 2nd word
D=9th letter of 2nd word
E=10's value of the elevation on disk

Stop #3. The elevation gain might make you tipsy. Use info on this BM for the cache coords, per previous two.

40.AA.BCD, 111.AE.FEG

A=4th letter of 1st word
B=2nd letter of 2nd word
C=3rd letter of 3rd word
D=Sum of clue "E" and "B"
E=7th letter of 3rd word
F=10's value of elevation
G=1's value of elev. minus 10's value

The easiest route to the 3rd BM is to take Parrish Lane (400 North) east toward the mountains until it forks, then bear left. The narrow asphalt road winds easterly where it becomes a dirt road. You can park here and walk, or if you have a truck or SUV, drive northerly. Do not attempt to drive directly to the 3rd BM; park approximately 200 feet south. After locating the 3rd mark, you MUST walk to the cache. No vehicles are allowed on the hills/trails east of the 3rd BM. Enjoy the hike and good luck!
