Geocache Description:

Snow on the Ground? Placed in early spring, this cache requires experience with traversing, steep slippery slopes on snowshoes. Slips can result in a long slide down to the lake or trees below. No Snow? Maybe a 3.5 in difficulty. A steep hike that rewards you with 360 degree vistas and a special view of one of the North's most beautiful mountains.

"Be Still My Heart" is what I felt several times hiking up the snow covered slope. Let's see, there is Heart Lake to the right, "The Heart" across the valley in Avalanche Gulch on Mt. Shasta and yes, my heart-throb of many moons was along for the ride and slide.

From the Castle Lake parking lot, look up to your left and start hiking. There is a trail that climbs above the south shore of Castle Lake and climbs towards the saddle south of Heart Lake. When you get to the saddle, the trail veers right towards Heart Lake or continues to the left to Little Castle Lake (and eventually "5 Star"). The ridge to your left takes you to "Be Still My Heart," beyond the rocky peak you see. While this may not seem the most direct route, it is easier than going straight up the peak from the parking lot.

Bring a camera, sun screen, water, gear for quick changes in the weather and have a grand time.
