Geocache Description:

This cache is a must do, the view is nothing short of spectacular!Suggested parking is at N 050 36.984 W 003 31.646, there follows a short level walk to the cache.

The cache is within the area of MAMHEAD, which is a small parish of scattered houses, chiefly on the western acclivities of a bold eminence, 3 miles west of Starcross, and 4 miles northeast of Chudleigh.

Mamhead Park has a large and handsome mansion in the Elizabethan style (and can be seen from the cache area) was built by Sir Peter Balle, an eminent loyalist who died in 1680, aged 82.

It was afterwards the seat of the two last Earls of Lisburne. The house stands on a rising knoll at the junction of three narrow valleys, opening towards the coast, and backed with a high woody ridge of Haldon. . . . On the lofty wooded summit of Mamhead Point, stands a noble obelisk of Portland stone, built by Thos. Balle, Esq., about 1742. The Church stands in the park, and is a neat structure with a tower and five bells. The views from here on a clear day are outstanding!

At the boxes inception it contained a sparkling water pistol, mini notebook, magic box,light-up necklace, an address book and a small frog, and obviously the log book with a pen & pencil. Please be careful when finding the box as this can get to be a busy area.

Enjoy the cache.
