Geocache Description:

This is a traditional little cache hidden in a hillside near a section of the beach in the Palos Verdes Estates area.

Driving down scenic Paseo del Mar you’ll come upon a peaceful little grove of trees situated between expensive homes where you can then park on the street. Walking towards the ocean through the clearing you will find a large conduit that carries run-off to the ocean and also provides residents and surfers access to the ocean. It’s usually not a busy place but that can change depending on the time of the year, naturally. On the south side of the pipe, concrete has been poured for hillside cohesion which also doubles as a walkway of sorts. Follow the pipe down almost to the ocean but please be careful as the journey does require your attention. Because the angle of the pipe itself is steep and the pipe inherently slippery, I would definitely suggest wearing sneakers and utilizing the concrete cover alongside the conduit for the pathway as it provides much better traction and footing! The cache is hidden in the hillside to the left (south) of the pipe about fifty feet or so from the conduit. The cache itself sits about ten feet from some brush. The coordinates were averaged sufficiently on a clear day to improve the accuracy level but because of the terrain some people might claim the coordinates are off. That’s one reason why I used the difficulty level I did and I’ll adjust it later as I review your log-ins. The pictures (see links below) will help but are really not necessary to find the hide. The cache itself is a very well camouflaged plastic container 5” x 3 1/2” x 2” and contains a log and a pen and assorted goodies.

As you’ll see, there are many, many places to hide a small cache in the area so allow your GPSr time to settle down and then look very closely. If you choose to explore the beach area you’ll find tide pools as well, and please keep in mind the environmental laws concerning disturbing sea creatures such as anemones, etc. I think you'll find the area interesting and a family-friendly environment. As always, practicing CITO is always in vogue and please respect the two properties on either side of the clearing. Again, watch your footing and please return the cache exactly as you found it (you’ll see why) for the next person. Be discreet and on the lookout for muggles who will wonder what you’re doing and where you’re doing it. Thanks! Enjoy the hunt...and the area... and good luck! Happy Hunting!

Note! Coordinates have been 'tweaked' for better accuracy. (3/3/05)
