Billy Bob's Cache Site #1 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: From the Northern Region Office, New Jersey State Parks Department:

Over a year ago New Jersey enacted a policy that all geocachers must obtain a permit to have their cache on State Park property. We have informed all geocaching host that this is their responsibility and have given them ample time to go about getting their permits. At this time, over a year later, there are still several caches that haven’t complied.

We ask that as the land managers for the attached properties we would like to have these illegal caches removed.

Based on the list provided by the state, I am forced to archive this listing. If you have a permit, get a permit or don't believe your cache is on state park/forest land, please contact me via email. Make sure you include the GC code.

If you don't plan to get a permit, please remove your geocache so it doesn't become geo-trash.

Geocache Description:

This is my first of a series of caches I plan to do in Ringwood NJ. It is located on a small overlook over Erskine Lakes, which I have been going to since I was a little kid and love. The Cache is located on an unmarked trail off of the Ringwood Ramapo Trail (Red) see North Jersey Trails Map 22.

Reaching the Cache:

1) The Cache can be reached by walking up the Red Trail from Skylands State Park or down from Skyline Drive Area.

2) For a more direct route try parking on Valley Road at N 41 06.037 W 74 14.858. From there take the dirt road with the gate across it until it ends. From here you can do the following:

A) If you’re daring you can bushwack from here up to the cache, if you keep bearing to the right you will probably have the easiest walk.

B) Or walk off the dirt road straight onto an unmarked path, (you will pass a small white well building to your right) Walk towards N 41 06.209 W 74 14.563 which is a major turn in the trail. Shortly after that the trail will come to a four-way intersection, go straight onto the red trail. When the red trail comes to another four-way intersection go straight onto the unmarked path, which leads to the view.
