Located along several gravel roads near Lewisport, Ky. You don't need a boat to access the cache.
I grew up nearby the cache site, hiking, fishing and mostly just wandering around the many strip pits and the surrounding area. While you will see a few seams of coal in the exposed pits, it is mostly clay that was being mined. The mining continues today, with the trees first being cut for lumber, then the land stripped of it's clay and coal. When completed, the land is supposed to be returned to it's original state, but I have yet to see that occur. The cache is a camouflaged peanut butter jar, covered by a coffee can, and contains a few tradeable items. You may want to circle the island to find the easiest landing spot, and beware the poison ivy upon coming ashore. I hope you enjoy the hunt, in an area you probably would never have visited otherwise. After all, isn't that what geocaching is all about?
