In Marston Moretaine there is a church with a very interesting
history
"When the church was first erected by the Christian towns folk
the devil spied, from his fiery domain under the ground, that it was an
extremely solid example of workmanship. In Hell the only builders they
receive there are "cowboy builders" - the ones who charge extortionate
rates for shoddy workmanship and inferior building materials! So bought
by this church's quality the Devil decided that the next night he would
run into the churchyard and steal the church tower - as he couldn't manage
dragging the whole church back to Hell - for his back garden (making it
into an interesting feature that his garden had so far been lacking).
The next night as the moon settled into position, the devil broke into
the churchyard with a pair of bolt cutters and a massive length of rope
over his hairy shoulders and proceeded to tie up the Tower. Spitting on
his warty hands for grip he started to pull the rope...
Unfortunately for the Devil he hadnt realised that the church was built
with quality Christian workmanship AND quality building materials. So
where he submised that the church was made out of extremely light MDF
and Balsar wood, the actuality of solid timbers and hewn rock was far
too much for the poor Devils back. However, so badly did he want that
tower he stubbornly continued to try and pull it back to hell. Inch by
inch the tower was wrenched from the church.
But time doesnt move the same way on Earth as it does in Hell and although
the Devil thought he had forever before the sun would rise and call an
end to his labour, the first rays of sunrise came peaking out over the
horizon. The sunshine burnt its light onto the Devils hide making him
scream and curse the Church. He realised then that he would never be able
to make the Tower his and went screaming back to Hell defeated!

The outcome of this is that the Church tower still remains separated
from the church to this day marking the Devils downfall. The Devil however
changed his plans for his back garden and replaced the Towers designated
spot with a "slightly chipped" bird bath that he got on the
cheap from one of his newest arrivals of his fiery domain...".
