Capture The Flag VII Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

MajorBrat: I was visiting my Grandson in Beloit today and went to check on the hide for the first time since the snow started falling. I found that there had been gravel dumped in between the rocks after the last time I was there in October. I dug the container out (a green rock that used to be able to be seen while standing on the 2 flat rocks just south of center court). Apparently the gravel caused moisture to remain in the container...it was moldy. And yes, there was more "yucky" there...stuff from yards tends to drift to the area after the river goes down each year, but is usually cleaned up quickly in the Spring.

In any case, I pulled to container and am retiring it w/ a heavy heart. This was placed during a time when these hides were few and far between. Thanks again to all who found it and to those who participated in the hides!

Happy Caching All!

Geocache Description:

Situated on the Rock River, this 1.5-acre park has lighted tennis courts with a practice wall, restrooms, and a pier with public boat launch. The cache is located in one of three parks that make up the Riverfront Parks System in this town. Together they boast approximately 30 acres of riverfront property, as well as one of Southern Wisconsin’s favorite summer festivals. While here take a walk along the river and enjoy the view.

This was hidden as part of a fun game between the cachers of Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. All hides in Wisconsin were in Rock County. Once hidden there, cachers from Northern Illinois tracked it down and took it back to the flatlands of Winnebago County, and the game continued. These two adjoining counties were the perfect place to play out this game. The cache hides were then named w/ a sequential name. While others decided to make a challenge out of locating the flag, I decided to go for an easier, more scenic find…since some feel I was “holding the flag hostage.” This is a micro cache container too small to hold a pen or pencil, yet large enough for a log and Geo Site Notice. Please take care in replacing both into the container. (First to find…please remove and dispose of outer container…thanks!) It should be easy enough to locate once you figure out where to park. Happy caching…game on!
***NOTE: IF THERE IS SNOW ON THE GROUND IT COULD MAKE YOUR HUNT MUCH HARDER, BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE***
