Geocache Description:

This is in the "Cajon Unit" of Hovenweep National Monument.

Hovenweep has six separate "units". The Cajon Unit is about 9 miles southwest of the Visitor Center. Ask for a map and directions at the Visitor Center (open year round) if needed. A high-clearance vehicle would be helpful for the last 1/4 mile of the road. To claim this cache, you must do ONE of the following two things. Either:--Post or e-mail us a picture from the site with your GPS in the picture; OR--E-mail us a description of what is painted on the registration box at the site (do not post this information). Be sure to explore the rest of this little-visited National Monument, which provides many close-up views of ancestral Puebloan structures, mostly built in the 13th century. The short loop hike from the Visitor Center is very worth your time! There is also a nice campground in the Monument. NOTE: The road to the Cajon Unit is occasionally closed due to poor road conditions. Ask at the Visitor Center or call for information {(970) 562-4282 ext. 10} before heading out.
