This cache is located at Bear Gap on top of
Mount Magazine inside Mount Magazine State Park. This area is a
very unusual geological feature that is worthy of some time
exploring and photographing. While this area is now part of the
state's 50th state park it is still a wild area. A good parking
spot is at the locked gate on the road to the "Electronic Site".
This road is blocked by a gate (35° 10.120N, 093° 39.080W) but foot
and bike travel is invited-just don't block the road.
There is a sign on the south side of this road indicating the
trail to Bear Gap. It is a short, fairly clean walk from the road
down to the edge of the mountain top. From there, head on south
towards the edge and look for the trail dropping into the "gap
hole".
Stop by the visitor center, lodge (computers
in the business area) and don't miss the Highest Point in
Arkansas!
Another close cache of mine is the
Mossback Ridge cache located on the ridge just east of the lodge,
SW of the vistor center. I also have caches on both approaches to
the top on SR 309.
WHEN YOU GET WITHIN 50 YDS OF THE
CACHE....UNLESS YOU ARE A BILLY GOAT...ENTER THE SUNKEN AREA FROM
THE EAST.
Please include your home location in the
logs...and if you are staying in the lodge, cabins, or
campground.
NOTE: This cache has a Arkansas State Parks Permit # 28 Verified
