You can reach this cache with most vehicles. Although to go up in the canyon (and you should), you'll need some ground clearance. Not necessarily 4wd just a little ground clearance.
OPHIR ALSO KNOWN AS OPHIR CANYON( EARLIER CALLED TOIYABE CITY), IS IN A VERY PICTURESQUE CANYON. SILVER WAS DISCOVERED IN 1863. THE MAIN PRODUCER WAS THE MURPHY MINE. IN 1865 A WAGON ROAD COSTING $8,000 WAS BUILT FROM THE BIG SMOKY VALLEY INTO OPHIR CANYON. STRETCHES ATTAINED 10 DEGREE GRADES AND 9 WOODEN BRIDGES WERE BUILT OVER THE CREEK. OPHIR HAD TWO THINGS MOST OTHER TOWNS DIDN'T. YEAR ROUND WATER AND PLENTY OF TREES. OPHIR REACHED A POPULATION OF 400 IN THIS STEEP AND NARROW CANYON. A 20 STAMP MILL WAS BUILT IN 1866 AND PRODUCED MORE THAN $750,000 IN SILVER DURING THE NEXT TWO YEARS IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT MINING IN THIS AREA AS THE ROCK WAS EXTREMELY HARD. THE MINING COMPANY FOLDED IN 1869. MINING RESUMED IN THE MID 1880'S AND LASTED UNTIL 1890. DURING THESE 10 YEARS ANOTHER $3 MILLION WAS PRODUCED.
