We couldn't let this one go by - Cache Creek - this is its real name! This is on the road from Haast to Wanaka - there are creeks all along the road - Joe, Cron, Dizzy, Dismal, Depot, McPherson, Douglas, Solitude, Roaring Swine - to name a few! But in the middle of all of these wonderful names you will find Cache Creek!!
The cache is a 200 ml plastic container.
If you are going fast you will miss this creek so keep watching! If you are travelling from Haast it is just past Roaring Swine Creek (about 25km from Haast). If coming from Wanaka it is the next creek after Depot Creek. There is a neat waterfall at Depot Creek (5 min walk from road). There is just enough space on the approaches to the bridge (on both sides) to be able to park your car safely off the road - a bit tighter for a camper van!Be VERY careful if you need to cross the road or the bridge as traffic is travelling at speed.
The cache is on the general bridge structure, but not on the bridge itself. It used to be under the bridge but kept getting washed away when the creek flooded!
