Die obigen Koordinaten beschreiben einen Parkplatz, der Euch zu
einer weltweit bedeutenden Grabungsstätte führt:
Die Korbacher Spalte ist die zweitälteste
fossilienführende Spalte der Welt und die älteste in Europa. Sie
hat auch den Nachweis von ca. 10 bislang unbekannten
Landwirbeltierarten erbracht. Vor Korbach waren nur 3 Arten
bekannt, jetzt sind es 12 bis 15 Arten bzw. Unterarten. Außerdem
ist dank Korbach die Existenz des Superkontinents Pangäea vor rund
250 Millionen Jahren von der Hypothese zu einer wissenschaftlichen
Theorie geworden. Die Nase hat Korbach auch in punkto
Altersbestimmung vorn: Während die Funde der beiden anderen im
Oberperm entstandenen Spalten nur auf ca. 15 Mio. Jahre genau
datiert werden können, beträgt die Ungenauigkeit in Korbach nur ca.
400.000 Jahre.
Die Korbacher Spalte ist eine
20 m tiefe, und bis 350 cm breite Erdspalte in der Nähe von
Korbach, die 1964 von Jens Kulick entdeckt wurde. Die Spalte ist
gefüllt mit ca. 250 Mio. Jahre altem fossilem Material. Nach
Fossilienfunden finanzierte die National Geographic Society
systematische Grabungen. Nach als sensationell eingestuften Funden
von Procynosuchusfossilien, wurde das Areal von der Stadt Korbach
erworben, überdacht und unter Denkmalschutz gestellt. Daneben
wurden auch Protorosaurier oder Captorhiniden entdeckt. Die Funde
sind im Korbacher Museum ausgestellt.
Führungen finden hier immer Sonntags von Anfang Mai bis
Oktober statt. Ansonsten kann man sich außerhalb dieser Zeiten
