Geocache Description:

In historical downtown Corydon, Indiana.

The Constitution Elm - In the hot June of 1816, Indiana delegates met under this enormous elm tree to draft Indiana's first state constitution. The Elm had a trunk diameter of 5 feet, branches spanning 132 feet, and a height of 50 feet. In 1925, this magnificent tree died of Dutch Elm Disease. To remember the Elm as an important Indiana monument, citizens preserved the trunk and enclosed it in a sandstone memorial. Other parts of the Elm were saved and stored, and these pieces are displayed in Indiana schools and museums or are available as souvenirs. To log this cache you must post a picture of the plaque or tree with you and your GPS. If you are unable to be in the picture as long as your GPS is visible then that will be acceptable.
