Bring a lunch or snack and enjoy the fine view of the pond while
sitting at the nearby picnic table (Update 4/08, bring a blanket,
the table is now gone). The fields here offer a great opportunity
for kite flying. The nearby Nissitissit River is a popular
fly-fishing area.
Check the kiosk at the parking area for information before
departing.
You’ll stroll through rolling fields till you reach the
pond. A pine needle carpeted trail leading to the cache starts just
to the right, behind the pond. After reaching the cache, you may
continue on the trial loop that follows back to the field. However,
it’s possible to encounter a small water/muddy area in the
springtime or after heavy rains.
The cache is a rectangular Tupperware container with a tan
cover. It is located approximately 50’ off the trail. No
face-slapping bushwhacking is necessary.
It’s possible to encounter some poison ivy on your way.
Remember the saying “Leaves of three, let them be” and
you'll be fine.
If it’s hot outside, a dip in the pond on the walk back
from the cache will cool you down. Doc Davis’s Ice Cream
stand nearby (68 Hollis Street) might be a good side trip for the
kids when you’re done. Enjoy the scenery, bring the bug spray
& water bottle and check for ticks when you get back to the
car.
