Geocache Description:

This multi-cache is located at Fauquier County’s C.M. Crockett Park (http://www.fauquiercounty.gov/government/departments/parksrec/index.cfm?action=crockett) which surrounds one side of Germantown Lake. The website for the park gives a link for a park/trail map…a map will definitely help.

When Ms. Arie is in the booth, there is a $6 fee for non-county residents. But hey, it costs me $10 to go to Fairfax County's Burke Lake Park! If Ms. Arie isn't in the booth, it operates on an "honor" system. The fee is worth it folks, for the park is big, well maintained, and has lots to do. They have free carts to help you schlep your picnic stuff (coolers, baskets, kids, etc.) to the picnic sites, Frisbee golf, and lots of great trails. Cross country skiing in the winter too! Parking at: N 38 37.309 W077 43.336

Do you like to walk/hike? I do, and you better too, if you want to get this pair of caches. I suggest comfortable, sensible shoes/boots, for if it rained recently the trails can be muddy, the grass soggy/boggy. The first cache (DECON container) is 0.53 mi. from the parking lot. Doesn't sound far, does it. No sweat. Look for the path leading down to the Park benefactor sign/plaque. Follow the path to the Park map sign. Stay on the path closest to the lake. Pass the Park office/concession building. Pass the bathrooms, unless ya gotta go. Trailhead is at: N 38 37.511 W077 43.379. Stay on the trail closest to the lake, it is most expeditious. Cross the bridge. Pass some old farm machinery roped off on your left, this may be the Artesian well mentioned on the trailhead sign. You shan't be far now. The CORDS for cache #2 are in cache #1, along with a few trinkets. NOW the fun begins.

Cache #2 is located 0.55 mi. from the parking lot too, BUT, it is now 1.01 miles from cache #1. "So ya better git on yer horse pilgrim, 'cuz ya got a little fur ta go," (ala The Duke). Retrace your trail, pass your car in the parking lot and head towards The Forge. You can take the high road (on top of the dam), or the low road (follow the bird houses on the non-lake side of the dam), and go nearly to the end. Walk along the woods edge/line, until GPS tells you to go straight into the woods. Cache #2 is an Ammo box, jam-packed with all kinds of neat stuff.

Hope you like the hike!
