Geocache Description:

If you follow the Vineyard Gap trail, some parts of it will get your heart pumping.

Located near Vineyard Gap trail At Turkey Pen Gap. A moderate climb

Turkey Pen Gap is located between Mills River and Brevard off of Hwy 280. Take Turkey Pen Gap Road N35 19.744 W082 38.789 to the end of the road, this is about 1¼ mile of winding dirt road. Park in the designated parking.

You can follow the Vineyard Gap trail OR take a less strenuous trail that has no name posted, either trail will allow you access to all the caches on Vineyard Gap trail. The less strenuous trail is to the left of Vineyard Gap trail head with only a sign saying NO MOTOR VEHICLES and is a little closer to the gate at end of the parking lot.

The old plastic whipping cream container finally gave up the ghost, so on August 20, 2006, we replaced it with a brand new 6" x 9" plastic container. It got "chewed" up by an animal, and "Paid2Play" was kind enough to replace it when he found it. On Aug 20, 2007, we had to replace it again, as another (or maybe the same) animal chewed it pretty good again. The new cache container is now a 6" x 6" square plastic container. It is hidden in the exact same place, and it is contains some small exchangeable items. It is hidden about 40 feet off the trail in a tepee of trees. The lid of the new container has a rather tight fitting lid, so PLEASE take the time to be sure it is completely sealed, and please rehide it well when you leave.
On August 6, 2008, we had to replace it again as it was chewed up pretty badly. We replaced it with another 6"x6" square plastic container. On October 4, 2009 it was missing again. This time, no sign of it whatsoever. Also, the "tepee" of trees has pretty much rotted away. We decided to replace it with a new 6" round Lock-&-Lock type container, and relocate it about 10' away, in the base of a rhododendron bush. The coords still took us within 10' of the new location, so we are not updating them.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Remember, animals have MUCH more sensitive noses than ours, and many scented items appear as FOOD to them. Please do NOT place any food, candy, or other "scented" items such as candles, soaps, scented wipes etc. into geocaches.
