Geocache Description:

This cache is located near the end of an old abandoned road that runs parallel with Route 981 just north of Route 30 toward Latrobe, PA. It is very easy to find and only takes 5 – 10 minutes to get to. This is a good one for a quick cache with the little ones. There is a very nice view of St. Vincent Church from the end of this road.

. We decided to put it here for 3 reasons:

1st, It offers a nice easy one for those that have “Little Ones” that love to go “Treasure Hunting”, like “Little Crock” does. Or if you just want to grab a quick cache on your lunch break. It would also be a good one to practice your nighttime hunting skills on.

2nd, It can be used for a place to drop off Travel Bugs intended to head to Northwestern Ohio (we travel there 1-2 time a month) or other places. In the summer, Route 30 is still traveled a lot, going east to offer a scenic route through the Laurel Mountains as an alternative to the interstates, where everyone is in a hurry. It also offers a place for the College Students from all over a place to exchange Travel Bugs.

3rd, Along with the others we plan to place, it will offer a little extra activity between training sessions for those that visit Steelers Training Camp.

This road was put in but never really served a purpose (some say it was old route 981). There is nothing at the end of it, and there are no houses along either side of it. There is ground that could be sub-divided into lots but there is another street that runs parallel to this one that would serve them. Crock remembers when they use to plow and salt this road in the winter even though it had no purpose. They must have finally stopped when people in the area complained about wasting taxpayer money to maintain it. A few years after they quit maintaining it they piled some stuff along the front of the road to stop people from partying there.

Although you can get closer to the cache from other locations please use the parking coordinates given. If you don’t it will attract complaints from the neighbors about blocking the street, and you may get a ticket if you park along route 981. It is very easy as it is, if you need it any easier, maybe this sport isn’t for you.

Please park in front of the piles of debris that are blocking the road on Monastery Drive off of Route 981.There is enough room for 3 – 4 cars. Parking: 40 17.736 N – 079 23.584 W Cache: 40 17.598 N – 079 23.608 W

Be Stealthy!! Thanks and I hope you have fun.

Note: We can try to clean this area up, but it seems as if the people in the area use this as a dumping grounds for their yard debris.
