Geocache Description:

Panmure Head Lighthouse
4 of 4 in the Hills and Harbours Lighthouse Series
The lighthouse is in view while driving across the causeway. The cache is not at the lighthouse (since there are people living nearby) but you drive past the cache on the way. There was a lot of storm damage to the beach this winter, and the cache had to be relocated.

Panmure Head Lighthouse
4 of 4 in the Hills and Harbours Lighthouse Series
On Route 17, the King's Byway, look for the turn-off to Panmure Island. Built in 1853, located on the southwest extremity of Cardigan Bay, the lighthouse marks the entrance to Georgetown Harbour, on the east coast of Prince Edward Island. It is connected by highway with the mainland on the South across a sand beach. The light tower was constructed in 1853. It had a wooden octagonal tower. This light was used as a coast light serving considerable steamer, schooner, and fishing boat traffic. In 1909, the dwelling was built. It was reconstructed in 1958 as the building disintegrated over the years. It was made as a one and half storey. In 1908, the fog alarm building was put together. It consisted of a wooden frame structure. At present, the machinery at the Panmure Island lighthouse is operated electrically.Height above ground: 18.6 m

The Hills and Harbours Lighthouse Series

This is a beautiful part of the Island that is off the beaten path. Most of the lighthouses are managed by community groups and staffed by students in the summer; modest admission charges for a chance to tour and climb the lighthouse.

There are several other caches in this area so it makes a wonderful day trip for serious collectors.
