The cache is now in a GREEN AMMO CAN, with normal items in it, log book, car, and so forth. It is easy to drive to in the Summer. The road will be closed in the winter due to snow. once at the location it will be a fairly easy find but I did place it away from the rock formations of interest due to traffic. How the cache got its name, while placing this cache we looked up and discovered a dog just relaxing on top of the rock. see picture. As it was told to me Castle rock road was a short cut for the wagon trains coming across Camas Prairie, they would join back up with the Oregon trail around Tollegate and Immigrant trail. What really put Castle Rock road on the map was its unique rock formations ( Castle rock and Skull rock ) and Charlie Sampson. Mr. Sampson Started a Gramophone and music company back in the early 1900’s. One day while making delivery’s he got lost and tried to get the City officials to put up signs on the roads leading to Boise but got no help. Charlie decided to do it himself with orange paint, one of these signs was put on one of the boulders just on the other side of the fence ( PIANOS SAMPSON BOISE )
If you use your imagination while viewing the picture below (the dog we found). Looking at the rock formation the dogs nose is pointing to the left and the top of his head is the highest point of the rock formation.
There is also a nice little pond in the area and the trees look gorgeous when they turn in the fall.
