Can be reached by walking, mountain bike or small boat. Fairly clear terrain except right around cache.
There is a small fee charged to enter the Chena Lakes recreation area from Memorial day until Labor day ($4.00 per vehicle, or $1.00 per person to walk or ride bike and $10.00 to camp), there is no fee the rest of the year. It's such a great park that you may want to plan on staying to make a day of it. It's great swimming in summer with long bike paths and camping areas. The cache is a small green amo box with red paint identifying the geocache web site on top. This cache is a learning experience for the Cub scouts of pack 92 and Boys scouts of troop 10, who are both members of the Midnight Sun Council. The Cub scouts had a Mercedes emblem travel bug that they picked out from their first cache find when on a summer camping trip at birch lake in June. Today we were having an ice fishing derby at Chena lakes and this seemed like the perfect day to place a cache and get that travel bug moving again. We did place this cache when the ice was still thick and safe on the lake so it may be tricker to find in the summer months. Gook Luck! The cache contains: Mercedes Benz Emblem/Northern Trekker Travel bug, Wilderness Survival skills cards, Boys Life Magazine, Rika's Roadhouse Wooden post card, Shoeless Joe Jackson Dollar, Forest Fire prevention key chain, Cub Scout coin, Cub Scout pencil, Scouting bumper sticker, Spare GPS batteries, Fishing bobber and a Fort Wainwright Youth Group Travel Bug (TBBB7A).
