A three kilometer walk on footpaths around Rhodeswood Reservoir in the Derbyshire Peak District National Park.
Nearest car parking on the busy Woodhead Road. It is also possible to park at N 53 28.343’ W 001 57.157’ near to Valehouse Dam and make a longer circular walk taking in the lower reservoirs.Rhodeswood is the middle of five reservoirs in Longdendale that were built between 1847 and 1876 by Manchester Waterworks. At the time of completion, they retained the largest area of water of any reservoir system in the world. They began supplying Manchester in 1851 and still provide 24 million gallons of fresh water every day.The first two caches are white plastic screw-top bottles giving the co-ordinates of the next cache. The final cache is a small rectangular plastic box. On the way to the final cache you will follow the route of a steam narrow-gauge railway that was used for the construction of the reservoirs and that remained in service until the 1940’s.
