Geocache Description:

CAUTION: See long description. This is a high point overlooking the confluence of the Tanana and Delta Rivers as well as the Trans Alaska Pipeline Bridge crossing the Tanana.

A small parking area exists at the base of the bluff near the highway bridge. CAUTION: THE FACE OF THIS BLUFF IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GO UP OR DOWN IT, at least one person has lost their life here. A much, much easier way can be found by walking a short distance up hill along side the road facing traffic. Just before reaching the guardrail, you will see, to your left, two gullies that go up the bluff. The first has a well defined foot trail, but is a bit more strenuous than the other. The second just a few yards on up the road is not as steep, but a little further (recent reports indicate this trail is now overgrown with brush). We've been over both with bad knees and whatever else ails us. At coordinates N 64 09.463 W 145 51.316 mother nature has provided a fallen tree where one can sit and rest for a moment and have an excellent view of the area. The cache is a tiny bit further. Cache is in a seven (7) inch cookie tin, painted with flat camo colors. Inventory at time of placement was: Logbook; 2 pencils & 2 pens; 2 Fridge Magnet Bears; 1 Pkg of 2 tubes Super Glue; 1 Roll Electrical Tape; 1 Pkg Wire Ties; 2 Key Rings; 1 Coleman Travel Can Opener; 1 Fish Stringer; 1 Letter Opener. Looking across the two bridges and to the right one can see a little of Rika's Roadhouse, a National Historic Site (worth a visit). A ferry used to cross the Tanana at Rika's many years ago. Looking South-Eastward you are looking up the wide expanse of the Delta River with the Granite Mountains in the background. Further upstream the Delta River is classified as a Wild and Scenic River and is a favorite canoe trip for many from Tangle Lakes downstream to the Black Rapids area. Looking further to your right on a clear day one can see the Alaska Mountain Range. Teenagers frequent the area at times during the summer's long evenings. Please rehide the cache well, so it will be out of sight of the noncachers. As you leave the cache to return to the well worn trail, please consider the delicate foliage and take a slightly different path back to the trail.
