South of I8 in the Jacumba area. Cache is a regular large sized ammo can. Terrain is rated 2 stars due to the rocks--they move on you and make you fall.
Once upon a time there was a geocaching team (to remain nameless, but hint: they are “Blonds” and they “Run Amuck”). This geocaching team recently celebrated their 100th cache find. While gazing admiringly at the “100” on their profile (but NEVER while at work), they simultaneously noticed, (much to their shock and dismay), that they only had “1” hide. Yes, uno, count it, one, yes, a single cache hide in 100 finds. Horror stricken and embarrassed, they made a pact to place another cache. And to place it soon. And to each place a cache to get the number up twice as fast. (It took only a week for that brainstorm.) So this is one Team Member’s contribution to the cache count. This was actually the second hide for the team, but the other Team Member was much quicker coming up with a name so she logged her cache first. (Drats!) This is an easy cache (on account of SDDarkman did the driving and finding the hiding place and lugging the rocks to me to cover it—so it was an easy one for me—except the falling part…). The cache site is south of Interstate 8 in Jacumba. You take the exit with the gas station and drive further east on the dirt frontage road. (SDDarkman's directions: Take old 80 east from the gas station, and just past mile marker 38, I believe it is, there is a dirt turn off to the left(north), turn there and take the next dirt left, about 30-60 feet off of old 80 and there you will hit a turn around camp site.) It is in a rocky area (duh) above the early stages of Carrizo Creek. Remnants of visitors past and present litter the area. Indian pottery shards, shell casings and clothing can be found in abundance. (But why would anyone leave their toothbrush behind? I must have seen 10 over the course of the day.) If you see the cool pink back pack you’re in the right area. The cache started out with a GEOCOIN, a 1 lb See’s Candy gift certificate, a Blonds Run Amuck signature picture frame and other stuff. And, as always, BEWARE OF SNAKES! The title? The question that SDDarkman is tired of hearing me ask...what do people do for a living who live way out here?
