This is the South African Representative Cache based in Scotland. It is the first of two foreign representative location cache to be placed in South Africa & Scotland. The idea was devised by my brother in Cape Town, South Africa and myself in Brodick, Scotland. The aim is to have a foreign representative in each country and for its “people” to come pay homage to it. South Africans this one is for you. Its “sister cache” is the Scottish Representative cache based in S.A.[GCYY34]
As a diplomatic post we hope to have many visitors of all nationalities ! Its contents carry a distinctive S.A theme and they originate from their representative country. It is our hope that S.Africans’s will be attracted to this cache for it’s many reminders of their homeland.[Extremely well-sealed Chappies bubble gum, pictures of home and other S.African souvenirs.] For everyone else it is an opportunity to experience a little bit of Africa and it includes copious amounts of tourist information and many interesting “foreign” thingi-gumies to look at. Similarly its is hoped that Scottish folk living in S.A will visit the Scottish Representative cache based in S.A.
As a diplomatic post the log book is an “official government document” which you will need to “stamp” with your details. The name of all visitors including minors-preferably in their own scrawl !! . Its is also hoped that when visiting this diplomatic post that items of international importance will be traded. The diplomatic post especially likes low value [To avoid incentives to commit acts of robbery or terrorism to the cache.] coins and flags from around the world.
The initial contents of the cache includes a range of modern S.A coins and enough miniature S.A flags for each visitor to take one home with them.
To visit your little bit of Africa on Arran you need to get yourself to Ardrossan Town’s ferry Terminal [ N55.38.433 W004.49.471] where you catch the ferry to Brodick. [N55.34.594 W005.08.270.] Approx 55min sailing time. This is the closest town to where the cache is situated. Head to the North as you come out of the terminal and continue with the road going to Blackwaterfoot, you should very shortly see a sign saying Glen Rosa Cart Track.[See pic Glen Rosa Cart Track ] This is where your adventure starts. Park your car where convenient and follow the path heading towards the camping site….Glen Rosa is a truly magnificent place. It’s a long valley with stunning scenery. Imagine rolling hills, neatly camaflagued with contrasting brown bracken and green grass .It’s breathtakingly beautifull with its meandering river and grassy banks and of course, the forests on the hilltops above. Well worth the walk !
Once you get near to the cache you will get to a bridge where your gps will tell you to head West. Follow that smaller path along the river bank until your gps tells you to head North again. I say this because the heather is dead now but I can imagine it being a altogether different story in summer !! The cache is hidden underneath a large rounded rock that has a hollow under it. The cache’s cave-like entrance is covered with dead bracken to conceal it . With a bit of hunting around and knowing what to look for, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find.[Even though there are many rocks about !]
The cache is a largish green re-sealable case type with a Geocaching sticker on the front of it. (See Pic.) It is absolutely LOADED with as many souvenirs from Cape Town South Africa that my brother could get for me. It includes,1 x South African Coin of each denomination .1 x South African Flag Printout.1 x South African Flag Purse1 x South African Flag Logo Penknife1 x South African Flag Logo Photo album1 x South African Flag Logo Sticker.50 x South African Flags [Minuture] 2 x South African Flag Logo, handmade ethnic pencils; each with information sheet.1 x South African Nelson Mandella Travel Bug.1 x Geocache readme.doc 1 x Log Book3 x Pens Loads of touristy type information.Loads More of S.A Odds and ends.Enjoy !
