Geocache Description:

Bring your own pen

Winterley Pool is an old millpond that was first recorded in 1572. Cheshire's largest herd of non-breeding, immature mute swans (approx. 40) reside on the pool making it one of the most important inland refuges for mute swans in the county. There are also quite a few Canada geese and assorted ducks, see the information board by the pool for more details.

It is possible to park within a few metres of the cache. Please be careful when searching, as there are always lots of muggles in the area during the day, so it may be easier to visit early or late. There is a fence between the pavement and the pool to keep the birds in the water and children out of it – it is NOT necessary to cross over this fence to find the cache.

Bring your own pen

Note: The swans will always appreciate something to eat BUT please do not feed them any bread.
Grain, such as wheat, and vegetable matter, especially lettuce and potatoes, can be fed to swans. Food should be thrown into the water to avoid encouraging the birds onto the bank.
