Our first cache as a family is hidden somewhere just off Patriots’ Path in Long Valley. The Gillette Trail is the part of the path that you want to travel. Park in the lot off Route 24 located in the valley. The trail is mostly gravel and dirt. There are no real terrain challenges here. The coordinates of the parking lot are N 40 47.078 W 074 45.966. Start here and proceed down the path towards the old red barn. Depending on the season, you may be walking through a corn field with some pumpkins and gourds. Say hello to the nice beagle in the pen when you pass; don’t forget the goats too. Continue on the trail through the old orchards and nursery. If you hit the river, you are on your own. Rely on your GPS unit to bring you to the cache. The container is relatively large and will fit travel bugs and other things easily. This is a nice family outing with some beautiful surroundings. Some might think that “they are not in New Jersey any more.” The park closes at sundown. Dogs are allowed on the path on a leash.
