“INDIANA SPIRIT
QUEST”
The Indiana Spirit Quest series of
geocaches will take you to a number of small, rural, historic
cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers in central Indiana. You can
map out a route and get a bunch of ‘em in one trip and at the same
time learn a little about our history.
INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST
#33
”The Orchard”
Welcome to the serenity of Reed Cemetery,
very small, on the top of the hill , next to the orchard. Located
in Paw Paw Township in Wabash County, Indiana, it occupies a very
secluded spot.
I’ve been experiencing some problems with
photographing these old cemeteries, with some lens flaring or bad
film or I don’t know what, but I think the photo above definitely
shows some ectoplasm of some sort. If you notice, the blurry pale
wispy stuff on the right side of the photo above and the
rainbow-looking energy flow extending downward from the obelisk at
the left…

Well, I suppose
that SixDogTeam's references to ectoplasm in the cache description
was meant as sort of a joke, but I'll have to admit that of all the
ISQ caches that Hutt, Mattster and I have found yet, this was the
spookiest; at least for me - and I'm not
kidding.
We didn't see any
ghosts, nor even a hint of ectoplasm, but there was something
uncanny and chilling about this location. Yes, we visited after
dark, but that was also the case with several other ISQ stashes for
us, and I never had a creepy feeling at any of the others. Yet
somehow, this cemetery seemed darker than any other ISQ location
yet.
It was as if the
cemetery itself was shrouded in a cloak of ominous blackness. After
leaving our vehicle, our walk into the search area seemed much
longer than it should have been, and we could see nothing in front
of us until the cemetery grounds appeared suddenly, looming above
in a very threatening manner. It was as if the location itself was
moving away from our approach, and when we finally arrived, warning
us to keep away. Once into the actual graveyard, the actual stones
seemed to retreat from us until we were almost on top them, then
yielded reluctantly to our examinations. The whole place just felt
very uncomfortable, and I was very glad when Hutt found the cache
fairly quickly and we were able to leave.

INITIALLY WITHOUT BENEFIT OF THE HINT. FAIR WARNING!
