Een wandeling of fietstocht van ca 5.5 km in het gehucht Waaienberg, op de grens van Opwijk en Merchtem.
De naam is afkomstig van een doorwaadbare plaats. Door zijn relatief open ligging op een zekere verhoging doet het ook de moderne interpretatie van zijn naam eer aan. Dit is dan ook te zien aan de dakpannen van de talrijke hoeven. De tocht gaat langs landelijke asfaltwegen, bospaden en veldweggetjes. De lagergelegen gedeelten kunnen zeer drassig zijn zodat goede laarzen absoluut noodzakelijk zijn bij vochtig weer
Het stuk van de start naar WP1 kan zelfs soms dermate slecht zijn dat u kan overwegen de omweg langs de verharde weg naar WP1 te nemen.Soms lijken de paden op de oprit van een huis het zijn echter allemaal publieke paden. Raadpleeg een stafkaart bij twijfel.
Zoek een plaatsje voor uw auto in de buurt van de startcoördinaten.In de buurt ervan vind je een originele brievenbus (zie foto). Het huisnummer van deze brievenbus is ABC.

A walk or bike-trip of 5.5 km in the hamlet Waaienberg, between the villages Opwijk and Merchtem. The name comes from a ford. By its position more or less in the open and on a certain height, the literal translation of the name (meaning windy hill) is nowadays very appropriate. This can be seen when looking at the roof tiles of the many farms. The trip takes you across rural asphalt roads, forest tracks and fieldpaths. The lower parts can be very muddy so a pair of good rubber boots are really necessary when it has rained. The part from the start to WP1 is sometimes that bad that you might consider taking the longer way around over the road to WP1.
Some of the tracks look like the access road to a house. However, they are all public tracks. Consult your topographic map when in doubt.
