It's time for the 2nd Annual Bertha Brock Park
Cache-O-Rama!!
(just a campout and caching event with a
snazzy name)
When?: July 23, 24, and 25. Events for those only coming for Saturday
will start at approx 2 P.M., with plenty to do both
before and after that time. (There are a lot of local caches)
Where?: Bertha Brock
Park, Ionia, Mi.
Why?: Because we had so much fun meeting fellow cachers last year, we
wanted to do it again!
What?: A great chance to camp, and enjoy the outdoors with fellow cachers.
We'll have a meet and greet on Saturday, as well as some night caching, and
closest to the pin contest. There's also rumor this could be the unveiling of
the new mi-go coins..(not a confirmed rumor.)
Brief Description: Well, after having a blast last year at
the first ever Bertha Brock Park caching event, we thought we'd plan another.
It's a weekend to camp, hike, cache, relax, and sing around the campfire with
your fellow cachers. We'll be having a a few games on Saturday,
non-skill based, (well..kinda) as well as a pot luck dinner saturday night. Many
of us will arrive Friday night and stay until Sunday, but Saturday is the day
we'll try to get the most of us together. Also, for those staying late or
overnight Saturday, I am going to place some event-only night caches. I'm
working hard to be devious, but also allow some enjoyment. So, for those of you
interested, pick up a head-light, SHOES, and come-along..
Long Description and other stuff I thought I'd ramble about: Last
years outing, hosted by Viking Forge, was an absolute blast. Family fun
all day, and a nice campfire/cookout/singalong at night. Rhonda and I
really enjoyed it, and thought it'd be fun to do it again. The potluck Saturday
night will allow us to sample many different dishes. I'm going to post a list
soon of who's bringing what, keep in mind, that pop/chips, and cups/dishes are
always a nice addition (for those of you like me when I was single, that would
forget until the last day). If you've decided what to bring, post it here on the
event page, so I can start to gather a tally. Or you can email me also.
Looks like we'll have a rather large tent available, so even if the weather gets
foul (which it WON'T) we'll be able to pull this off.
Important notes,
in no particular order of importance: We'll need firewood. Be careful about quarantines,
but if everyone brought a little, it'd help alot. We'll manage I'm sure,
but it'd be great to have someone bring a bunch. Campers:
Bertha Brock Park is a rustic park. Pit toilets, the only running
water is through a creek nearby, or a small handpump located near basecamp. It
is a very quiet place, and very private. However, when we come, we pretty much
take over the place, and are welcomed with open arms by management. As far
as campers go, the campground is a one-way road through the sites. Before you
get to the first site there is a bridge you go under with only a 9 foot
clearance. Also, because of incline and narrow roads, I'd advise against
squeezing something big past this bridge anyway. We do have one 5th wheel coming
that will be at basecamp, but they'll come in the opposite direction. Call the
park if you have questions....
Added Info: There
will be a motorcyle rally for hunger meeting at the lodge in the back of the
park during the day Saturday. This will benefit Gods Kitchen in grand rapids, as
well as the Devos Cancer Center. It's in no way part of the cacheing event
officially, but we've been extended an open invitation to head back, and eat
drink, and be merry with them, all for a good cause. It's fairly sure I'll be
spotted there :)
