A fairly large ammo box located at 7200ft elevation in Dry Creek canyon.
Around 2:00 am on June 5th, 2002 Elizabeth Smart was Kidnapped from her home by religious fanatic, Emmanuel (Brian David Mitchell). She was taken to his hideout, located less than 3 miles from the Smart home in Dry Creek canyon. They camped there for several months. On March 12, 2003, Elizabeth was found walking down State Street in Sandy, UT and returned home to her family after a harrowing journey.
This cache is so named because it is located above Mitchell's hideout in Dry Creek. On the hike to the cache, you can stop and visit Mitchell's first camp building attempt (40 47.713, 111 48.550). This location was abandoned for a more remote location. If you're truly morbidly curious, the final camp is a 10 minute hike up the steep hillside next to the attempted camp at an elevation of 6,640 ft. If you visit the final camp, please take coordinates and send them so we can include them here. The cache is located a little less than a mile past Mitchell's attempted camp.
The cache is filled with lots of brand new goodies! We read on the Groundspeak Forums that it is sometimes traditional to have a nice prize that doesn't require a trade for the cacher who finds the cache first. This sounded like a nice tradition, so we have put one in this cache. The "no need to trade" FTF prize is the umbrella, but if you're FTF please feel free to pick out whatever prize you like.
