Geocache Description:

The founding of Hagerstown and the origins of the church at the above coordinates are inexorably joined. Jonathan Hager, the founder of Hagerstown, was many things – farmer, trader, merchant, gunsmith, patriot and leader. He bought a large tract of land on the western edge of the frontier from Charles Calvert.

Upon this land he built his home, laid out plans for a large town and provided land for the first church. His home, the town and the church are very much present today. Hager House can be visited on the grounds of City Park. The city, at the intersection of Routes 11 & 40 and Interstates 70 & 81 continues to flourish. The church, originally built in 1775, in its’ third re-incarnation, is a magnificent stone structure that boasts a number of original Tiffany stained-glass windows. Do not miss the wrap-around graveyard that is the resting place for several Revolutionary War soldiers from the area.

The cache is colored to blend in. Please replace as found. Remove only the cap, not the entire container.
