NOTE TO FTF: Please rescue all 3 travelbugs from this cache. I'm worried that they may become hungry!
The cache is an ammo box in the Charles C. Deam wilderness area at a location adjacent to the Middle Fork state wildlife preserve in the Hoosier National Forest.Plan to camp at the nearby campsite on a peninsula nearly surrounded by water. The coordinates for the campsite (N 39* 03.220, W 086* 21.736) will be your parking spot if you arrive by water. There are several other caches located in the vicinity.
The campsite is clean and level and offers an easy boating approach. It is located approximately midway between Crooked Creek and Cutright boat launches.
Ample shade is provided by a wide variety trees including tulip poplar, cedar, dogwood, ironwood, oak, maple and beech.
You may see birdlife including bald eagles, turkey vultures, loons, whipporwills, blue jays, cardinals, geese, ducks, cranes, herons, woodpeckers, owls and hummingbirds.
There is no poison ivy, but you may find pussy toes, hawkweed, St. John's wort, moss and lichens.
The cache is about 600 feet from the campsite. You can follow a trail about half the way, but you will have to bushwhack the last 300 feet.
The original contents of the cache include a multi tool, solar calculator, flashlight, CITO kit, ladybug kaliedoscope, entomology floppy disk, roll of pennies, compass, alien top, cache police card, deck of cards, jigsaw puzzle, sewing kit and five gold dollars.
