The Minffordd Path and your route to Llyn Cau starts here.
The oak woods of Ystrad Gwyn up which the Minffordd Path rises is believed to date from the last ice age.
Follow the path close by the Nant Cadair stream, climbing steeply through the woodland, exit through a gate and continue along the well trodden path to the corrie of Cwm Cau.
The Welsh Bard Gwilym Cowlyd 1827-1905 penned this famous engly to the lakes.
Y llynnau gwyrddion llonydd – a gysgant Mewn gwasgod o fynydd;
A thynn heulwen ysblennydd Ar len y dwr lun y dydd.
‘The calm green lakes are sleeping in the mountain shadows, and on the waters canvas, bright sunshine paints the picture of the day’
