This cache is located in front of the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum, located at 910 Biscayne Boulevard in DeLand, Florida. The museum is “In Memory of Those Who Served” and is open only on Wednesdays and Saturdays from eight until noon. There are volunteer tours that last about an hour and are worth taking!
In 1992, the museum, which used to be the Master-at-Arms residence, was donated by the city. Down the street, the DNAS Historic Hanger acts as a partner location. Both the Master-at-Arms and hanger are full of donated military artifacts and memorabilia including a M.A.S.H. helicopter from the Korean conflict, a jeep, other aircraft, flags, uniforms, weapons, and more.
The DeLand Naval Air Station was occupied from November 1942 through March 1946. Naval aviators, including the SBD Douglas Dauntless dive-bombers who fought in World War II, were trained here.
The cache is an Altoid gum box (There have been multiple "other" containers provided by others over the years, though there has been at least one Altoid container present since the get go.) and employs the use of magnets.
The cache is not located behind the fence; it is somewhat within the "Antique Aurora".
Take care and On-On!
