Cape Bear Lighthouse
3 of 4 in the Hills and Harbours Lighthouse Series
Drive in to the old marconi station ( not the lighthouse), there is a path that leads into the woods behind.
Follow Route 18, the King's Byway, to get to Cape Bear. At a sharp bend in the paved road turn off the main road, go down to the second lane on the right. You'll find the lighthouse in the woods. There is a high bank here. Please keep a safe distance back.If you drive further in the road (turn right out of the lighthouse lane) there is a rocky beach that is interesting to explore where a brook runs under the road out onto the beach, and a wonderful look off over the water. One of our favourite beaches is nearby at Beach Point. This is an unsupervised beach. Drive down past Herring’s Cottages for a place to park. N46 01.107 W062 28.393
The Hills and Harbours Lighthouse Series
This is a beautiful part of the Island that is off the beaten path. Most of the lighthouses are managed by community groups and staffed by students in the summer; modest admission charges for a chance to tour and climb the lighthouse.
There are several other caches in this area so it makes a wonderful day trip for serious collectors.
