Cache is just off the top of scenic hill overlooking Santa Fe. Monte Sol (means Sun Mountain in Spanish). Great hike and views. Take water and good boots. Best to park at the new Sun Mtn trail head on Old Santa Fe Trail. The Trail is partly on private property and maintained by the city. Please obey postings. The trial is a steady upward climb to a steep climb approaching the summit. Dress for the weather.
Cache was setup by the Sangre de Cristo Girl Scout Troop # 374 from St. Michael's High School. The original troop members have graduated and moved on. The cache is maintained by me, the father of one of the girls. Cache was reestrablished on 6/30/05 afte the first cache of 5/04 was vandalized and destroyed. Cache is a clear large plastic Rubbermaid box (~8"x12"x4") with a red lid. Contents: Log book with instructions, various items such as 4 magic 8-balls, 24 pencils, 4 mini flashlights, 1 stuffed duck toy, 1 VW bug keychain, 1 mini calculator, and 1 Chinese yo-yo. New Travel Bug #504887 (Juliette Grodon Low doll)was put in cache. The doll is to travel to Savannah, Georgia then to Our Chalet in Switzerland, then to Pax Lodge in London, and finally back home to Monte Sol Santa Fe, NM. Hike to top of Monte Sol. At top, go South South West from the base of a cut metal cross. The cross is now missing but the metal base remains. The hilltop has beautiful vista of the Ortiz and Sandia Mountains. The geocache is just east off the top among juniper, oak and pine. Please rebuild and secure the cache house after retrieving the cache. Access the cache from the south side.
