Mel of The Cache Rangers placed a great cache which was enjoyed by many for over four years. I was happy to adopt the cache rather than see it archived due to Mel's ill health. Thanks for a great cache Mel.
If you do the Schipp Road Walk by the book, The Handbook of Walking Trails, published by the Shire of Kalamunda, you will walk the anti-clockwise circuit and arrive at the cache area towards the end. Otherwise you can simply follow the GPS and straight into a steep climb, moving clockwise. We prefer to walk the circuit, follow the signs, and have the steep descent at the end instead of a climb at the beginning.
One leg is part of the Bibbulmun Track, you'll see the signs, just make sure you stick to the Schipp Road signs otherwise you'll be on your way to Albany! You can't see the signs if you walk the circuit clockwise, unless you walk backwards.
The cache is about 15 metres off the track hidden in some rocks, we just wanted to get it off the trail so it couldn't be found by accident.
The handbook has over 20 walks in the area with information on the flora & fauna, history, and what to look for on the walks. Great little book, available at the Kalamunda council for about 4 or five dollars, well worth it.
