In 1852 a Hudson’s Bay Company shepherd was murdered near Saanich, and outraged Governor James Douglas was determined that law and order would prevail in the new colony. He dispatched a ship from Victoria to apprehend the two native suspects. They were tried on the quarterdeck of the S.S. Beaver on January 17, 1853, and hung the same afternoon, the first trial by judge and jury under English law on the Coast.
The site of the hanging was originally called Execution Point, but subsequently became known as Gallows Point.
The container is a small camo lock'n'lock. Bring small items for trade. The contents include a FTF certificate, a STL certificate, a log book and pencil, several small items and a card for a one day free rental of a kayak from the Kayak Shack in Nanaimo.
