Victoria Falls is located at the end of
a seasonal access road which is a continuation of the Black River
Road.
From Washago head out Coopers Falls
Road till you pass Coopers Falls, turn right on Black River
Road.
This Cache can also be reached from
Sebright thru Sadowa.
The Cache is located about 1 mile beyond Victoria
bridge. Victoria Bridge is easily accessible by car after May 15th
and before the snow flies but I would not go beyond the bridge
without a serious 4X4 and even then -unless you really like a
challenge and have 4X4 experience- I would do the hike. The trail
will follow the river until you reach a side stream and a small 4X4
bridge, follow the 4X4 trail from that point up thru the rock cut
and into the highlands.
The
area is part of the Ganaraska Hiking Trail Wilderness Section from
Moore Falls on highway #35 to Sadowa. This is some of the most
rugged wilderness hiking you will find and should you wish to
attempt the full trek please contact the Ganaraska Trail group to
find out more information. In the Ganaraska Hiking Trail binder the
warning states "Rugged terrain! Challenging! For experienced hikers
only DO NOT hike this section alone." Of course you shouldn't have
much trouble getting to the Cache! The Ganaraska trail is usually
marked with white flags/paint and the trail goes right past the
Cache. If you enjoy hiking back here and would like to try some day
hikes look for the Montgomery Creek side trail, the Ragged Rapids
side trail or the High Falls side trail. The Cache is located near
the Black River Junction.
Visit http://www.ganaraska-hiking-trail.ca/
for more info on the trails.
FYI ...
the road is closed from March 1 to May 15 due to poor conditions
until things dry up a bit. The road was in good shape May 16th when
I placed the Cache.
